(Yicai Global) Sept. 25 -- The first product batches for exhibit at the China International Import Expo from Barbados have set off for China, 43 days before the fair's Nov. 5 opening.

The first load of products shipped from Central America for display at the CIIE left port on Sept. 14. These products originated in the Caribbean island nation of Barbados then went to Panama by air where China COSCO Shipping took charge of their trans-shipment to Shanghai, state news media The Paper reported Sept. 23.

Latin America's exports to China have steadily risen as a proportion of the region's total export volume in recent years. China has now become its third-largest market.

Barbados and the other Caribbean island nations also have high expectations for the CIIE, hoping the fair will bond them with the Chinese market.

Given the distance, time constraints imposed great tension when the exhibition goods became ready in early September. With the guidance of China's commerce ministry, China COSCO Shipping, the CIIE-recommended shipper for international transport, COSCO Shipping Lines headquarters and the CIIE's logistics team devised the solution of air-plus-sea-freight.

Under this arrangement, Caribbean countries send their goods by air to Panama where COSCO Shipping takes charge of customs clearance, storage, packing and booking cargo space before loading them for its fastest delivery to China.

From these products' arrival at Panama Airport to loading onto ships only took 48 hours thanks to the effective cooperation between each side.
