(Yicai Global) June 21 -- China's internet watchdog has published a first-of-its-kind list of 41 registered domestic deep synthesis service algorithms, including ones developed by tech giants Alibaba Group Holding, Tencent Holdings, Baidu, and IFlytek.
The algorithms, registered as of this month, are divided into two types, service providers and service technological supporters, a notice on the Cyberspace Administration of China’s website showed yesterday. This is the country's first such list to be officially released.
Service providers mainly aim at personal users' apps, including IFlytek's voice recognition algorithm, Kuaishou's short video generation and synthesis algorithm, and Baidu's algorithm for generating images from text prompts.
Service technological supporters mostly target business-oriented services, including IFlytek's generative large language model Spark, the smart special effects makeup algorithm developed by ByteDance's Volcano Engine, and Tencent Cloud's human face synthesis algorithm.
The list’s release shows the importance China gives to this round of scientific and technological transformation, led by artificial intelligence technology, Securities Daily reported today, citing Chen Xiaohua, an expert who is evaluating the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's major new infrastructure projects.
China is pushing ahead with standardizing laws and regulations on generative algorithms at a face pace, said Chen, who is also executive director of the Metaverse Industrial Collaborative Innovation Center at the science and technology park of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
According to the CAC rules, deep synthesis service providers with public opinion attributes or social mobilization abilities must complete the registration, change, and cancelation procedures, the regulator noted.
