(Yicai Global) June 26 -- The first Chinese Mobile World Congress this year will welcome a broadening range of entities, including hospitals and carmakers, to join to showcase their latest communication achievements as a sign of recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The in-person version of the MWC Shanghai 2023 will kick off on June 28, breaking a hiatus of two years due to the pandemic. Investment institutions and banks will also participate in the exhibition this year to jointly explore digitalization via fifth-generation technologies, Sihan Bo Chen, head of GSMA China, the organizer, told Yicai Global yesterday.

Although 5G has been commercially available for four years, it is still in the early stages, Sihan said, adding that China is leading the way in 5G development, but it needs more time.

The MWC is one of the most prestigious international platforms for telecom companies. It is usually held three times a year in different places: Barcelona in February, Shanghai in June, and Los Angeles in October.

Lara Dewar, chief marketing officer of GSMA, told Yicai Global that she and GSMA members will spend a week in China to participate in industry exchanges to try to understand Chinese practitioners' views on future development.

The event will have a new exhibition zone called Digital Shanghai to make the local innovation ecosystem known internationally. But visitors will also see familiar wireless communication giants such as China Mobile, China Telecom, ZTE, and H3C.

Lenovo will join the future ecology pavilion for the first time with the largest exhibition area. The personal computer giant has joined hands with 12 companies for several themed zones, such as the metaverse, robotics, smart logistics, and intelligent supply chain.
