(Yicai Global) July 3 -- The artificial intelligence company set up by Chinese computer scientist and businessman Kai-Fu Lee just two months ago to develop AI 2.0 large language models and leapfrog the accumulated innovation that formed ChatGPT in the US, announced its latest progress on its new website today.

01 Wanwu Technology, which was formed on May 16, has already achieved model beta tests of tens of billions of parameters, and is expanding to tests of 30 billion to 70 billion parameters, Sina Finance reported, citing Lee, who is also chairman and chief executive officer of venture capital firm Sinovation Venture.

“01 represents the digital world, which symbolizes the ambition of empowering all things,” said Lee. The Beijing-based firm already boasts a team of AI experts who have worked for internet behemoths such as China’s Alibaba Group Holdings and Baidu as well as the US’ Google, Microsoft and Cisco, according to reports.

The company is licensed as a AI dual innovation service platform and a AI basic resources and technology platform and is permitted to conduct engineering and technological research as well as experimental development and to provide data processing and other services, according to corporate data platform Tianyancha.

Capital and computing power are getting gradually aligned for Project AI 2.0 and that includes global recruitment of top-notch talents in areas such as large language models, multimodal natural language processing, AI engineering and research as well as distributed computing and infrastructure, Lee said in March.

“Just as Windows led to the popularization of PCs and Android spawned the ecology of the mobile Internet, AI 2.0 will give birth to a platform ten times larger than the mobile Internet,” Lee said. “It will rewrite existing software, user interface and applications, and will also bring about a new batch of AI-first applications, as well as an AI-dominated business models.”
