Alibaba Cloud Is Fast-Tracking Global AI Rollout, Chairman Says Alibaba Cloud Is Fast-Tracking Global AI Rollout, Chairman Says

(Yicai) May 22 -- Alibaba Cloud is speeding up the international rollout of its artificial intelligence products and fast-tracking the deployment and use of its large language models in overseas markets, according to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Eddie Wu.

To push the overseas use of its LLMs, including Qwen and Model Studio, Alibaba Cloud is accelerating the internationalization of its AI offerings and expanding its AI infrastructure abroad, Wu, who is also CEO of parent company Alibaba Group Holding, said in a keynote address to the Alibaba Cloud Go-Global Conference today.

Qwen3 supports 119 languages, including many lesser-known languages and major dialects, Wu noted, adding that the LLM has already gained popularity among users in Japan, Southeast Asia, and various countries in the Middle East.

Globalization is a long-term strategy for Alibaba Cloud, which plans to increase investment not only in the overseas deployment of LLMs but also in building a cloud computing network with AI service capabilities and global market competitiveness, according to Wu.

The Hangzhou-based company will fast-track the creation of a global cloud computing network covering China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas, Wu said. The goal is to build data service centers in seven countries -- Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates -- within this year.

Moreover, Alibaba Cloud aims to support the international expansion of Chinese businesses by providing outbound consulting services and forming overseas technical and service teams, Wu added.

"In the face of a new round of historic opportunities, Alibaba Cloud will make strategic investments to provide first-class infrastructure, technology, and services to Chinese enterprises going global," Wu pointed out.

Alibaba has previously announced that it will invest more than CNY380 billion (USD52.7 billion) in cloud and AI infrastructure over the next three years.
