(Yicai Global) Jan. 13 -- Ali Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding, is to develop an Internet-of-Things-based intelligent coal mine monitoring and alerting system together with safety systems developer Chongqing MAS Science and Technology.

Mining is one of the most hazardous professions in the world. Chongqing MAS already has a wealth of experience in developing occupational safety hardware and software systems for mines, including gas sensors, underground communication networks and monitoring instruments.

By pairing with Ali Cloud’s strengths in Big Data, edge computing and artificial intelligence, the two parties will develop a smart early warning and monitoring system, according to the deal signed yesterday. No financial details were provided.

At 2 p.m. China time, Chongqing MAS [SHE:300275] was trading up 3.3 percent at CNY10.02 (USD1.55).
