(Yicai Global) Nov. 27 -- China's largest internet payment platform has announced its partnership with US car rental chain brand yesaway, operated by Yesaway Holdings Inc. based in the US state of California, to institute a deposit-free overseas car rental service for Chinese customers.

Those with high credit ratings on Alipay under tech titan Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA] can enjoy this service at airports in Los Angeles, California in the US, and Bangkok, Chiengmai and Phuket in Thailand, and Christchurch, New Zealand.

Previously, Chinese customers had to be pre-authorized by swiping a credit card, meaning a portion of their credit line was withheld as a deposit. Customers may now rent cars without paying a deposit, however, by simply accessing the rental platform using Alipay's Zhima Credit and conveniently pay the rental fee via Alipay. 

The development trend of deposit-free and mobile payment services in various sectors in China has aroused wide attention. Zhima Credit and Alipay aim to serve more Chinese tourists and are expected to address the issue of low credit card use by Chinese and the high cost of foreign exchange on the overseas car rental scene, said Zhang Xiao, yesaway's China head.
