Ant Group Warns Users About Sneaky Copycat Apps (Yicai Global) Sept. 15 -- China's Ant Group, which may soon carry out the world's largest initial public offering, has reminded some deluded users of the fact that mobile wallet Alipay is its only application.
Ant Group's lending service Jiebei functions directly via Alipay and the parent has not released other apps with names such as Ant Financial Service for the same purpose, the Hangzhou-based fintech giant, which has changed its name to Ant Group from Ant Financial Services Group, said in a statement on Weibo yesterday.
A user in Wenzhou had been defrauded CNY19,000 (USD2,791) after being tricked to "top up" their balance to apply for a CNY30,000 loan on the copycat app. The person has not been the only victim of this platform, according to netizens.
Alipay's Jiebei allows its users to apply for low-interest loans, ranging from CNY1,000 to CNY300,000 (up to 44,204), by using their Sesame Credit scores. The repayment period is 12 months and the daily interest rate is 4.5 bips.
The affiliate of e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding is expected to raise USD30 billion via its two share offerings in Hong Kong and Shanghai's Nasdaq-style Star Market soon.
