(Yicai Global) July 6 -- Contemporary Amperex Technology will establish a joint venture with TA&A Ultra Clean Technology for the mass-production of cathode materials as part of efforts by China's largest maker of new energy vehicle batteries to integrate the new supply chain.
The two parties have entered into a framework agreement, said Suzhou-based TA&A Ultra Clean in a statement, while details of investment values, equity structure and project site are yet to be ironed out.
CATL aims to use this JV to help shore up the supply chain for its battery business, which is booming due to the popularity of NEVs in China. The country accounted for just under half of all electric car sales globally last year with 777,000 vehicles sold.
The project will bring in advanced manufacturing equipment and techniques from the international community and will conduct process optimization and technological improvement on this basis, aiming to realize the mass production of cathode materials for lithium batteries.
Cathode materials involved in the project include lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide, ternary compound of Lithium nickel cobalt manganate, and lithium iron phosphate, said the statement.
