(Yicai Global) July 20 -- The Beijing municipal government's internet regulator the Beijing Office of Cyberspace Affairs (BOCA) has held talks with several website operators including internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd [HK:0700], calling on them to take immediate action against eight key improper forms of behavior on their we media platforms. Other websites that met with BOCA include sohu.com, 163.com, ifeng.com, qq.com, baidu.com, toutiao.com, and yidianzixun.com.

A Beijing-based governmental internet regulatory institution also issued records of inspections on administrative enforcement of laws for these websites, it said yesterday via WeChat we media platform Beijing_wangxin.

The eight improper acts listed by the Beijing Office include distorting policies, spreading false information, distorting the history of both the government and China, propagating distorted values like hedonism, spreading obscene content, holding unscrupulous discussions on taboo topics, attracting readers through sensational headlines, and showing disregard for copyrights (including plagiarizing) and reposting pictures without consent.

The Beijing Office ordered the above websites to rectify immediately by shutting down we media accounts spreading false information in line with relevant laws and regulations.
