Beijing Prohibits New Building Works in Downtown Areas(Yicai Global) Sept. 26 -- The Beijinggovernment has called time on certain types of construction in two districts of China's capital city.
New schemes for housing, hotels, office buildings and large public construction projects incentralDongcheng and Xichengdistrictsareonablacklist that excludesrenewal ofshantytowns, dangerousand dilapidated areas andcultural relic protection zones, the city government said on its website today.
Also forbidden are new hotels, offices and other big public building works withinthe city'sFifth Ring Roadin its north, east and west,andtheFourth Ring Roadin its south,encompassing four other urban districts.
This latest zoning initiative comes as a further sign of Beijing's drive to restore its functions as a capital and shift unwelcome economic and architectural activities to its eastern periphery and the Xiongan New Area in adjacent Hebei province to the city's southeast.
New residential projectsthat fail to maximize use of spacesuch assingle-family homes andhigh-concentrationrentaloffice buildingsarealso banned throughout the city, the municipal government said.
Regular senior high schools arealsorestricted from acquiring and expanding on tonew land inthecentral urban area.New projects within nine meters of housing as well as facilities for healthcare, education, research and administration arealso proscribed.
Useofunderground space for food-service businessesisfurther forbidden. Running abusiness without piped-ingasisbanned, asis theuseofresidentialelectricity and water supplies.
Catering businesses withpremisesof less than60 square meters are restricted, while businesses using finished or semi-finished products that come from central kitchensor foodproducers are excluded, as are single-type productsellers.
