Beijing's Seventh Ring Road Opens to Traffic Beijing's Seventh Ring Road Opens to Traffic

(Yicai Global) Aug. 20 -- China has opened a seventh ring road serving the capital Beijing, with the majority of the expressway spilling over into neighboring Hebei province. Some 890 kilometers of the 940 kilometer-long road run through Hebei.

The road will mainly be used by cargo trucks, which will alleviate traffic pressure in Beijing's urban areas. A decline in the number of lorries passing through the capital will also improve air quality.

Beijing's traffic network continues to expand as the urban population increases. The city's second ring road opened in 1992 and marked the first highway around the capital. Opened to traffic in 2009, the 187km sixth ring road connects with several other expressways, forming a network to other regions in China.
