(Yicai Global) Feb. 8 -- BEST Inc., a leading integrated supply chain solutions and logistics services provider from China, announced that it has begun to deliver bulkier and heavier items in Thailand this month. The new service covers nation-wide shipment of heavy parcels weighing up to 80 kilograms, satisfying increasing demand for online purchases of home appliances and furniture such as fridges, TVs, and sofa from Thai consumers.

The New York-listed logistics company is the first courier in Thailand to provide delivery for cargos up to 80kg with home pick-up and drop-off services, according to Jason Qian, general manager of BEST Southeast Asia.

“Since the beginning of last year, we have seen a growing demand for large-item e-commerce delivery, as people are increasingly going online to buy home appliances and fitness equipment,” said Qian.

“BEST’s new heavy items delivery service filled in a gap in the logistics sector in Thailand, as most local courier companies do not provide door-to-door shipment for items weighing over 50 kg,” he added.

According to a report by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company, Thailand’s e-commerce has witnessed a surge in GMV by 81% to USD9 billion in 2020, with 30% new all-digital consumers.

BEST entered the Thai market in 2019, capturing growing e-Commerce opportunities in the region. Since then, the Company has built five express networks in Southeast Asia and opened up cross-border services between China and these markets. In first third quarter of 2020, the Company saw a robust parcel volume growth in Thailand of 513.5% YoY to approximately 10 million parcels.

BEST expects the new service will also enhance consumer’ interests in buying heavy specialty from Thailand or China, as the Lunar New Year holiday approaches. For example, latex mattress is considered one of the most popular products from Thailand by Chinese consumers.
