(Yicai Global) Aug. 15 -- A subsidiary of BGI Genomics has recently won the bid for a project of the health and family planning bureau of Dongguan, an industrial city in China's southern economic dynamo of Guangdong province, to provide prenatal genetic testing services for pregnant women in the city.

The subsidiary has been confirmed as the successful bidder by the municipal health authority as the supplier of the DNA prenatal screening program, the Shenzhen-based leading Chinese gene technology developer said in a statement yesterday.

During the term of the three-year program, the affiliate will provide the service to residents of the city -- sometimes dubbed 'the factory of the world' -- within a total budget under CNY21 million (USD4.2 million). Actual income will be based on specific test items and the number of people receiving screening, per the statement.

The successful bidding and follow-up of this project will enhance the regional layout of the company's genetic technology for the public welfare and enable precision medicine to benefit more families, and positively impact the company's future operating performance, it added.
