(Yicai Global) June 26 -- Full-year profit at Bosideng International Holdings, the subject of a short seller's recent damning report, jumped 59 percent year on year as the well-known Chinese apparel maker focused on its main business of down jackets.

Net profit was CNY981 million (USD142 million) in the fiscal year ended March 31, the Shanghai-based company's earnings report showed today. Revenue rose 16.9 percent to about CNY10.4 billion.

The results came out just three days after Bonitas Research issued a report that accused the firm of overstating its past earnings, helping to lop a quarter off its market value at the start of the week. The report alleged the firm faked CNY807 million in net profits since 2015, nearly triple the actual figure. Yesterday, Bosideng countered the charges in a stock exchange filing that helped to revive its share price.

Bosideng told Yicai Global that it may take legal action against Bonitas Research, which today released a second report rebutting the company's defense.

Shares of Bosideng [HKG:3998] rose 2 percent today to close at HKD2.03 (26 US cents) each. They plunged almost 25 percent to HKD1.73 on June 24 before the company suspended trading. It was the biggest single-day slide in its stock price since the firm listed in 2007.

Branded down clothes were the firm's top sources of income in the past fiscal year, gaining by almost 36 percent to CNY7.7 billion, or 74 percent of its total revenue.

Earnings from original equipment manufacturing, processing and related management jumped 46 percent to CNY1.4 billion, or just over 13.2 percent of total income, while women's clothing posted a 4.2 percent gain to CNY1.2 billion, accounting for 11.6 percent of the total.

Looking ahead, Bosideng said it will continue to increase its outreach efforts and innovate new product ranges to be more competitive and creative.
