(Yicai Global) Sept. 27 -- The flexible electronic display market of China, represented by organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display model, will reach up to one billion units by 2022, and its annual growth will hover around 45 percent, Liu Xiaodong, vice president of the Beijing-based BOE Technology Group Co. [SHE:200725] told the 2017 China International OLED Industry Conference.

Flexible electronic display has gradually expanded into various consumer electronics from smart phones because of its light, thin, flexible, tough and energy-saving qualities. The flexible electronic displays will find broader applications in the future, with the industry ready to make important strides, the Shanghai Securities News quoted Liu as saying.

BOE's new generation flexible electronic production line in Chengdu in China's southwest Sichuan province will start mass production and shipping next month, with the new production line is manufactured in Mianyang, Sichuan, Liu revealed. BOE will focus on frameless phone and foldable displays for smart phones and PADs in the future.

The problems such as overcapacity and stiff competition should be tackled to ensure further development of the OLED industry, Peng Hongbing, a senior official at China's ministry of industry and information technology, told the conference.

The future development of the OLED industry will center on the industry chain and increased support for upstream equipment and material industries to form a complete ecosystem, Peng stressed.
