(Yicai Global) Dec. 9 -- Great Wall Motor yesterday announced an organizational restructuring of the Chinese automaker’s brands, involving Haval, Ora, Tank, Wey and Saloon, amid continued sluggish sales, Beijing Youth Daily reported today.

The move will enable the Baoding-based firm to concentrate superior resources, as well as improve operational efficiency and systems, to better cope with tougher competition next year, the report said, citing Vice President Fu Xiaokang. It will also help GWM realize the goals on globalization, going upscale and new energy strategy, he said.

Electric vehicle brands Ora and Saloon are now jointly headed by Saloon Chief Executive Officer Wen Fei. In terms of fuel vehicle brands, Liu Yanzhao is now also the head of Wey besides his existing post as Tank CEO.

Haval and GWM Pickup will continue to operate independently as two brands. According to the company’s plan, new energy vehicles will account for 80 percent of its sales by 2025. And by 2030, Haval will officially stop selling fuel cars.

Data show that GWM sold 87,560 units in November, down 28.5 percent from a year earlier. Sales from January to November tallied 990,081, an 11.5 percent annual drop, reaching just 52 percent of the firm’s annual sales target of 1.9 million.

Tank was the only GWM brand to grow last month, with sales up 8 percent from a year ago to 10,919. Sales of Haval-branded cars were down 22 percent from the same period last year to 53,923 in November, with Ora sales slumping 58 percent on year to 6,776. Wey-branded models sold 2,110 units last month, plunging 66 percent.

Saloon, a brand that was set up in August last year, has only one model, Jijialong, with the global limited edition available at CNY488,000 (USD70,200) each.
