(Yicai Global) Dec. 24 -- China's mainland stock markets continued to climb in the afternoon session and almost clawed back yesterday's losses as the tech-heavy Shenzhen benchmarks made major gains.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed 0.67 percent higher at 2,982.68, while the Shenzhen Component Index surged 1.32 percent throughout the day to finish at 10,189.29. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, wound up 1.91 percent higher at 1,769.87.
