China Mobile Debuts Hong Kong's First 5G Data Plans (Yicai Global) April 1 -- China Mobile Communications Group's Hong Kong affiliate has become the first fifth-generation wireless network provider in the special administrative region.
China Mobile Hong Kong rolled out 5G data plans with a discounted range of HKD198 to HKD498 (USD25.50 up) per month today, CCTV News reported. The smallest plan has 30 gigabytes of data and the biggest one 300 GB. The normal prices that kick in after June range from HKD338 to HKD638.
The Beijing-headquartered operator boasts over 90 percent 5G coverage in Hong Kong's major urban areas with its 500 5G bases stations. Hong Kong residents can already use 5G roaming in China's mainland and South Korea, as well as in some places in Europe by the end of this year.
China Mobile's [HK: 0941] stock price dropped 1 percent to HKD57.05 (USD7.40) this afternoon. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng Index was 2.2 percent down.
