(Yicai Global) Aug. 28 -- China's Oppo Mobile Telecommunications will join hands with America Movil, the biggest telecoms operator in Latin America, to enter new smartphone markets.

Oppo has penned a cooperation agreement with the Mexico City-headquartered company to bring its products to Mexico and other Latin American nations via the partner's brands Telcel and Claro, Sina Tech reported yesterday, citing the Dongguan-based firm.

The Chinese company was No. 5 in global smartphone shipments with its 24 million units in the second quarter, according to IDC. It sent 40 percent of its products abroad. This year, the firm has partnered with Europe’s biggest telecoms operator Vodafone, as well as Japan's KDDI and Softbank, to sell its fifth-generation wireless phones overseas.

The cooperation with America Movil should help Oppo to explore its potential in new markets, said Vice President Wu Qiang. The partner has operations in countries including Brazil, Chile, and Peru.

The deal should bring Oppo's innovations to the Latin American markets, Marcos Linares, deputy marketing director at telecoms operator Telcel which has an 80 percent market share in Mexico.

Oppo has so far collaborated with more than 80 mobile carriers worldwide.
