China Requires Tech Providers to Ensure True, Accurate AI-Generated Content China Requires Tech Providers to Ensure True, Accurate AI-Generated Content

(Yicai Global) April 11 -- Responding to the craze in artificial intelligence content generation technology, Chinese regulators today issued a document requiring that the content generated using this technology should be true and accurate, and comply with national laws and regulations as well as social ethics.

Providers of generative AI technology should apply for security assessments and file with the authorities before providing their services to the public, according to the draft document released by the Cyberspace Administration of China to solicit opinions. The deadline for comments is May 10.

Such providers should take measures to prevent the creation of false information and suspend or terminate services if violations by users are detected, it added.

AI-generated content refers to text, images, sound, videos, and code created based on algorithms and models, the draft said.

It also requires AI technology providers to take responsibility for the protection of information entered by users and not to damage the portrait, reputation, privacy, and intellectual property rights of others.

The AI-generated content technology has set off a surge in China, due to the popular ChatGPT bot. Many Chinese tech giants, including Baidu and Alibaba Group Holding, have launched rivals. But the technology has also sparked concerns about data security in the industry.

The Payment and Clearing Association of China issued an initiative yesterday, asking practitioners not to upload confidential documents or data in the financial industry, as well as non-public customer information and system code when using tools like ChatGPT.
