China's SAIC Motor Bets on Steady Marketwide Recovery as April Sales Grow China's SAIC Motor Bets on Steady Marketwide Recovery as April Sales Grow

(Yicai Global) May 4 -- SAIC Motor expects China's automobile sector to recover in a stable manner as the country's largest carmaker has posted increasing demand during the five-day Labor Day holiday after a bounce back to growth last month.

SAIC sold 413,000 units domestically in April, up 1.3 percent from a year earlier, partly explained by the government's preferable car purchasing policies, the Shanghai-based company said in a press release yesterday.

China has offered policy support to boost vehicle sales while SAIC explored new marketing strategies such as live streaming, said the company.

The car sector is set for V-shaped recovery, said Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association. The government's favorable policies will help promote the sustainable development of the sector and consumption upgrades, Cui added.

SAIC's total sales, including overseas markets, climbed by 0.5 percent to 433,000 vehicles in April. In the first quarter, its sales dropped by 56 percent to 679,028 units from a year ago, according to an earlier report.
