(Yicai Global) Nov. 15 -- Senior Technology Material is planning to lift production at its electric vehicle battery diaphragm plant in Sweden to better meet increasing demand from the country’s leading EV battery maker Northvolt.

Four new production lines will be built as part of phase two of its Swedish plant at a maximum cost of USD100 million, Shenzhen-based Senior Tech said yesterday. No details were given of the yearly capacity or construction timetable.

The first phase, which also consists of four production lines, is expected to start operation next year with an annual capacity of 90 million square meters of diaphragms. In the meantime, Senior Tech is supplying Stockholm-based Northvolt’s orders from its factory in southeastern Jiangsu province.

There is also an EV battery separator plant in the planning for Germany. Once this and the Swedish one are fully operational, they will supply over half of Northvolt’s needs for separators and major accessories, according to the deal signed between the two parties last year.

Shares in Senior Tech [SHE:300568] closed down 1.1 percent at CNY45 (USD7) today.
