(Yicai Global) Aug. 4 -- China’s mainland stock exchanges closed mixed today, with the major Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses holding steady despite heavy losses on the new Star 50 Index as investors hurried to cash in on yesterday’s gains.
The Star 50 Index, which tracks technology growth stocks on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s Nasdaq-style Star Market, led the losses as profit-taking saw yesterday’s 7.26 percent advance wiped out. It closed down 3.5 percent at 1,566.06.
The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, dipped 1.26 percent to 2,832.84.
Both the Shanghai Composite Index and the Shenzhen Component Index barely moved, with the former ending the day slightly up at 3,371.69, and the latter marginally down at 13,860.46.
