China's Stocks Fluctuate Throughout the Day, Lack Concrete Direction China's Stocks Fluctuate Throughout the Day, Lack Concrete Direction

(Yicai Global) Dec. 4 -- China's stock markets wavered throughout the day on Monday with no real direction in sight and investors still cautious after a recent broad-based selloff.

The Shanghai Composite Index and Shenzhen Component Index both closed comparable to the last trading day, with market players lacking confidence in either direction.

Only a handful of sectors closed on a positive note, the liquor-making and shipping industries continued their streak from this morning after beginning their recovery from a tough November, but new materials, telecommunications equipment and instruments and meters all failed to perform.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed down 0.24 percent at 3,309.62 points after turnover of CNY185 billion (USD27.98 billion), slightly higher than Friday's CNY177.5 billion.

The Shenzhen Component Index was up 0.01 percent at 11,014.55 points with turnover growing to CNY222.3 billion from CNY210.2 billion on Friday.

The Growth Enterprise Index, mostly comprising small-cap companies, did not continue Friday's strong rebound and closed down 0.38 percent at 1,797.77 points, with CNY60.4 billion traded throughout the day, a slight rise from Friday's CNY59.1 billion.
