(Yicai Global) Nov. 26 -- ‘The Battle at Lake Changjin,’ a historical epic about Chinese soldiers fighting American troops during the Korean War, has become the best-selling movie worldwide this year and the biggest earner ever in Chinese movie history.

The blockbuster had raked in CNY5.7 billion (USD892.2 million) as of yesterday, after 57 days of screening. It has overshadowed the latest James Bond release ‘No Time to Die,’ which had grossed over USD735 million as of Nov. 24. And it eclipsed the Chinese action movie Wolf Warriors 2 that brought in CNY5.69 billion in 2017.

But the box office takings are still on the rise. Screening has been extended on the mainland to Dec. 30, and it has now started showing in Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia and North America.

Hollywood sci-fi film Dune, which debuted at the same time, has only sold CNY240 million (USD37.5 million) tickets in China, by comparison, accounting for just 10 percent of global box office takings.

So far this year, total cinema tickets sales in China have amounted to CNY43.9 billion (USD6.9 billion). Fifty-one films have earned over CNY100 million, of which 35 were produced in China.

Wanda Film, Zhuhai Huajin Capital, Shanghai Film Group and Alibaba Pictures were all backers of 'The Battle of Lake Changjin.'
