(Yicai) Nov. 23 -- China's three major telecoms operators, China Mobile Communications Group, China United Network Communications, and China Telecom Group, had 754 million fifth-generation mobile network subscribers at the end of last month.

The trio saw 5G user numbers surge by 194 million from the end of last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology yesterday. That accounted for 44 percent of mobile phone users, up from 33 percent.

China had more than 3.2 million 5G base stations as of the end of October, making up 28 percent of the country's total, and the effect of 5G development has begun to show in revenues.

Combined revenue from the mobile data traffic rose 0.5 percent to CNY542.9 billion (USD76 billion) at China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, contributing 38 percent of the industry's total income.

Thanks to the promotion of 5G applications, China's mobile internet traffic jumped 15 percent to 245.6 billion gigabytes in the 10 months ended Oct. 31 from a year earlier, the official figures showed.

The three telecom giants have also actively developed emerging businesses, including Internet Protocol Television, data centers, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things. Their combined revenue from these businesses soared 21 percent to CNY301.2 billion, equal to 21 percent of the sector's income.

The industry’s revenue from cloud computing, big data, and IoT businesses soared 42 percent, 41 percent, and 21 percent, respectively, as of the close of last month from a year earlier.
