(Yicai) Sept. 15 -- ByteDance will devote more resources to the enterprise market as artificial intelligence agents become increasingly practical to use, helping businesses and organizations unlock the value of AI more quickly, according to the TikTok operator’s chief executive officer.

Once AI agents reach a usable stage, agents, AI models and collaborative work environments must be closely integrated, Liang Rubo said at a Lark technology event today.

Over the past 50 years, there have only been four technological peaks in the information technology field, namely PCs, the worldwide web, mobiles and artificial intelligence, with each peak occurring approximately 15 to 20 years apart, Liang said. Such industry-wide opportunities are rare. Moreover, compared to previous technological transformations, the scale of this AI peak far surpasses the past ones, promising a qualitative leap forward.

Based on this assessment, ByteDance completed an organizational restructuring two months ago, bringing together the strengths of its AI assistant Doubao, its workplace collaboration tool Lark and its cloud and enterprise technology services platform Volcano Engine to focus on developing high-quality workplace and productivity products.

Workplace collaboration is one of the most fundamental needs of businesses and has been a core application since the PC era, with each major technological shift reshaping the way it is delivered, Liang said. Over the past decade, Lark has significantly improved workplace collaboration both within Beijing-based ByteDance and for many leading clients.

"The scale of this round of AI transformation is enormous, and workplace collaboration is poised for a qualitative leap. We also hope that Lark can fully seize the opportunities that the AI era presents," Liang added.
