(Yicai) Dec. 6 -- China State Shipbuilding Corporation has secured two deals worth a combined USD1.5 billion to supply Seaspan Corp., the world’s largest owner of container ships, and HMM Shipping Agency, the largest shipping firm in South Korea, with giant Pure Car and Truck Carriers that can transport over 10,000 autos each.
Two subsidiaries of CSSC will supply Vancouver-based Seaspan and HMM with the world’s biggest PCTCs with a capacity of 10,800 vehicles, the Beijing-based firm said, citing the contracts signed at the 2023 Marintec China in Shanghai yesterday. No further details were given, but the amount is equivalent to 17 percent of CSSC’s revenue last year.
These mega ships will be able to transport ordinary vehicles and also those powered by hydrogen, compressed liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas, it said. They can also carry packaged dangerous goods and refrigerated containers.
One of the CSSC subsidiaries which took the deal, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding said yesterday that it is building six PCTCs for the order. And another CSSC subsidiary Guangzhou Shipyard International has received an order for 10 PCTCs, four of which are still awaiting confirmation by the customer, China Securities News reported, citing a company insider.
CSSC’s share price [SHA: 600150] climbed 2.1 percent to close at CNY28.01 (USD3.9) a share today.
