(Yicai) Sept. 1 -- Junxin Environmental Protection announced the Chinese municipal solid waste and green energy services provider will invest over USD280 million to build a plant to convert waste to energy in Kazakhstan.
Junxin’s Kazakh subsidiary will build a factory with a daily MSW treatment capacity of no less than 2,000 tons and total installed power generation capacity of 60 megawatts in Almaty, the Hunan province-parent firm announced yesterday, citing a deal it signed with the local ecology and natural resources ministry on Aug. 29.
Once construction is completed in 24 months, the factory will receive an MSW treatment fee of KZT7,000 (USD13) per ton and an electricity sales fee of KZT55 (10 US cents) per kilowatt-hour, Junxin noted, without revealing any further details about the project.
Junxin has actively expanded its waste-to-energy business in Central Asia in recent years. In July 2024, it secured a concession for a waste incineration and power generation project in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and then signed similar deals with three other Kyrgyz cities. Almaty is Junxin’s first partner city in Kazakhstan.
Junxin’s shares [SHE: 301109] were trading down 0.4 percent at CNY15.37 (USD2.16) as of 1.40 p.m. in Shenzhen today.
