(Yicai) May 13 -- Chinese printed circuit board maker Olympic Circuit Technology plans to invest up to USD200 million to build a factory in Thailand to meet demand from existing and potential overseas clients.

OCT will set up a project firm in Bangkok's Din Daeng district, which will be responsible for the investment, construction, and operation of the new plant, the Heshan-based company announced late on May 10.

China's Shennan Circuits, the world's leading supplier of radio frequency amplifier PCBs for wireless base stations, announced the same move as OCT last November. Several other Chinese PCB firms have also made plans to build plants in Thailand for between CNY550 million and CNY700 million (USD76 million and USD96.8 million) since the start of last year.

Building the Thailand plan can better meet the needs of existing and potential international big clients, OCT noted. It is conducive to the company's more flexible handling of likely adverse impacts from macro environment fluctuation, adjustments of industry policies, and the international trade landscape, it added.

OCT has two PCB bases in China's southern Guangdong province with an output of 4.2 million square meters of various PCB types last year, It ranks 32nd among the world's top 40 PCB supplies, with its products used in auto electronics, consumer electronics, and industry control, according to electronics industry consulting firm Prismark's 2023 list.

OCT's overseas sales income was CNY3.6 billion (USD497.7 million) last year, accounting for 80 percent of its total, its annual earnings report showed. Its international new energy vehicles clients include Tesla, BMW, Volkswagen Group, Porsche, Chrysler, and Mercedes-Benz.

Shares of OCT [SHA: 603920] rose 0.2 percent to CNY18.18 (USD2.51) as of 1.35 p.m. in Shanghai today, after jumping by as much as 1.9 percent in the morning trading session.
