(Yicai) July 13 -- The delivery rider uniforms of Taobao Instant Commerce, the instant retail arm under Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding, took the gold award at the annual international designers competition French Design Award.

Taobao Instant Commerce's City Rider Suit is "redefining a uniform" and "helps an entire workforce build a stronger sense of dignity and identity," the French Design Award judges panel, which included the lifestyle creative director of Italian sports auto manufacturer Ferrari, the chief design officer of Italian car design firm Pininfarina, and the senior designer of European plane maker Airbus, said at a winners ceremony on July 10.

Taobao Instant Commerce's gold award marks the first time in the 11 years since the establishment of the French Design Award that the top prize goes to a workers' uniform.

Released in August last year, the City Rider Suits are made of professional outdoor composite fabric, with an information bag in the right sleeve that stores the blood type and emergency contact of each delivery rider and a built-in waist bag with emergency supplies. They also have reflective strips bolded according to riders' feedback.
