Artist Seeks Recompense for Artwork He Says Chinese Courier SF Sent to Landfill Artist Seeks Recompense for Artwork He Says Chinese Courier SF Sent to Landfill

(Yicai Global) June 25 -- A Chinese artist has created the latest trending social media topic in China after express delivery giant SF Holding allegedly misplaced valuable artifacts in a landfill.

SF Holding said that some of the missing 12 parcels, containing artwork, diaries, and manuscripts, had ended up in a dump, according to the artist who goes by the name of Wangdemi online. He had sent the packages to himself when moving from Beijing to Shanghai on June 6 and received only some of them on June 12.

The parcels are worth hundreds of thousands of yuan, he said to Yicai Global yesterday. Earlier, he had said online that they are worth CNY5 million (USD770,000), claiming the courier company would take him more seriously if the perceived value was higher.

An insurance company had called on behalf of SF Holding to Wangdemi and said it could pay CNY2,000 (USD309) for the damages. The artist had refused to accept the compensation as he is asking for another sum from SF Holding. He didn't reveal how much that would be.

The Shenzhen-based express delivery firm didn't respond to Yicai Global's inquiries.

A court would be likely to support the client’s claim for compensation if the person can prove the value of the goods, said Wang Beibei, a senior partner of Beijing-based Yingke Law Firm.
