Chinese Cinemas Delay Two Japanese Movies, Staff Says(Yicai) Nov 18 -- Employees at some Chinese cinemas have confirmed they have postponed the release of two upcoming Japanese movies, after Japanese leaders' explicit and provocative remarks related to Taiwan led China to advise its citizens to avoid traveling there in the near future.
'Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Super Hot! The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers' and 'Cells at Work!,' which were set to release in the Chinese mainland on Dec. 6 and Nov. 22, respectively, will be delayed, staffers at several movie theaters in Shanghai told Yicai.
China imported more than 20 Japanese films last year, with their total box office revenue nearing CNY2.2 billion (USD30.8 million), accounting for over 24 percent of the country's total earnings of foreign movies. 'The Boy and the Heron' entered China's top 10 box office hits list last year, contributing 38 percent to the film's global revenue.
