(Yicai) Jan. 5 -- Many Chinese companies have entered emerging overseas markets, such as West Africa and Central America, thanks to the help of Alibaba.Com, the cross-border e-commerce platform of China’s Alibaba Group Holding.

Wuhan Jianuo Industrial, a Chinese supplier of high-quality fishing nets and gears that landed on Alibaba.Com in 2021, reported a gross sales value of CNY15 million (USD2.1 million) last year, thanks to sales in Africa, in which it has been present for a decade, and new markets, such as Europe, the Middle East, Central America, and Southeast Asia.

Alibaba.Com will assist Chinese firms in quickly and safely expanding their businesses to overseas markets through a big-data technology that targets sectors and countries, Qin Fen, head of industry and supplier operations at Alibaba.Com, told Yicai.

Jose Elias, a security guard from El Salvador, contacted a worker of Wuhan Jinnuo through the platform, and serve as the company’s reseller in the Central American country. After learning the process of online order placement, cross-border payment and logistics, manufacturing, and technical features of fishing nets, Elias became a full-time practitioner in the reselling of fishing nets.

Jianuo Industrial also expanded its product portfolio to other fishing gear, such as fishing rods, on Alibaba.Com. So far, the new categories have contributed over 30 percent to the firm’s total exports.

Foshan Xincode Technology, a Chinese manufacturer of quick-response code scanners, landed on Alibaba.Com last September. Thanks to this, the company’s sales in Southeast Asia soared 300 percent in the fourth quarter of last year from the second one, GM Cheng Zhen said.
