Chinese Mainland Stock Indexes End Month Lower for First Time This Year

(Yicai Global) April 30 -- Stock markets on the Chinese mainland ended higher today, but the three major indexes all marking their first monthly decline in 2019.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed up 0.52 percent today to close at 3,078.34, while the Shenzhen Component Index ended 0.54 percent higher at 9,674.53. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, finished 0.51 percent stronger at 1,623.78. Trading volumes in both Shanghai and Shenzhen were lower than normal.

Throughout April, the Shanghai benchmark lost 0.4 percent, the Shenzhen core index fell 2.35 percent and the ChiNext index slumped 4.12 percent.
