Chinese On-Demand Services Giant Meituan Is Hiring Short-Video Talents(Yicai) Nov. 21 -- Chinese on-demand services giant Meituan published several job recruitment posts for short-video-related talents.
Meituan is recruiting for positions including video client-side senior test and development engineer, short-video content cooperation personnel, short-video content recommendation algorithm engineer, and video content business analyst, according to job openings the Beijing-based firm posted on its recruitment website yesterday.
The video client-side senior test and development engineer will “accompany the development of Meituan’s video business from zero to one,” according to the related job description. The video content business analyst will serve as “an important strategic business for Meituan.”
Meituan launched its short video business to meet market demand, hoping to increase sales through short videos and livestreaming, which is also an effort to fight back against short video platforms, such as Douyin and Kuaishou, Chen Liteng, an analyst at the e-commerce research center of 100Ec.Cn, told Yicai.
Meituan is conducting an internal test to attract newcomers to its video business. Users can enter the video channel at the bottom of the home page of Meituan’s app to watch short videos.
Moreover, Meituan Video allows users to make money by watching videos. Users can accumulate up to CNY17.60 (USD2.48) by watching videos for a few minutes, but only 31 Chinese cents (4 US cents) can be transferred to their WeChat Wallet immediately, Yicai found. The rest of the amount turns into virtual gold coins that can be slowly converted to cash.
Giving cash to watch videos is only a stimulus, Chen said. To maintain users and achieve a high conversion rate, Meituan needs quality short videos, which requires it to attract more content creators and consumers, he added.
Some streamers on Douyin have already opened accounts on Meituan Video. For example, a funny vlogger with 809,000 followers on Douyin opened an account on Meituan Video and has already reached 42,000 followers.
