Didi’s ride-hailing orders climbed 13 percent to 5.05 billion in the three months ended June 30 from a year earlier, with a daily average of more than 55 million, the Beijing-based firm said in its latest financial statement yesterday. Of that, 3.65 billion were in China and 1.4 billion overseas, up 8.1 percent and 29 percent, respectively, in the period.

“In the second quarter, our core businesses continued to develop steadily, with transactions reaching a new record high,” said Cheng Wei, founder and chief executive officer of Didi. “Amidst ongoing improvements in safety, certainty, efficiency, and service capabilities, our China mobility business has demonstrated sustainable growth.

“At the same time, our international business has also achieved robust growth as ecosystem synergies continue to strengthen,” he noted, adding that Didi remains highly confident in its global development and will continue to solidify its localized services and foundational capabilities and deepen synergies across different businesses.

“Looking ahead to the second half of the year, we intend to continue strengthening driver protection initiatives while actively pursuing progress in artificial intelligence and autonomous driving,” Cheng pointed out.

99 Food, Didi’s food takeout service in Brazil, has been operating for one year. It now covers more than 100 Brazilian cities, with more than 60 million users, according to data released by the company.

At the end of July, 99 Food’s instant retail service 99 Compras entered São Paulo, Brazil’s largest city, integrating diversified on-demand delivery services of supermarkets and drugstores and connecting with more than 3,000 businesses, including Carrefour.

During this year’s FIFA World Cup, Didi completed over 100 million mobility orders and 15.3 million takeout orders in Mexico.
