(Yicai Global) Oct. 17 -- China's mainland stock markets traded listlessly throughout the day, closing nearly flat as investors were unable to commit to a future market direction.
 

The Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.05 percent to 2,977.33. The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.03 percent to 9,645.39. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, was up 0.11 percent to 1,658.26.
