(Yicai Global) Dec. 28 -- China’s mainland stock markets closed higher overall today as the liquor sector led the gainers.

The Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.02 percent to 3,397.29, while the Shenzhen Component Index grew 0.19 percent to 14,044.10. The ChiNext, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, climbed 0.07 percent to 2,842.81.

The Liquor Stock Index of leading Chinese financial data provider Wind Information climbed 6.21 percent today. Nine out of 18 listed distillers rose to the daily 10 percent price ceiling, with no stocks in this sector dropping today. As the peak consumption season and amid the collective price hikes of liquor makers since December, the spirits sector has performed quite strongly recently.
