Chinese Stocks Close at Three-Month Low as Network Firms, Farmers Slump

(Yicai Global) May 23 -- The three major indexes on China's mainland stock markets declined today, hitting the lowest point for three months since February 22. Communication network companies and farmers did the worst. 

The Shanghai Composite Index closed 1.4 percent lower at 2,852.52, with a turnover of CNY192.9 billion (USD27.9 billion). The Shenzhen Component Index ended 2.6 percent down at 8,809.53, with a trading volume of CNY271.7 billion. The ChiNext Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, closed 2.5 percent lower at 1,451.24, with a turnover of CNY88 billion.

The communication network sector shed 4.2 percent, falling heavily since the morning. Agricultural firms logged a 3.2 percent combined decrease.
