(Yicai Global) Sept. 9 -- China's mainland stock markets started the day lower this morning as investor confidence was eroded by concerns over global sell-offs.

The Shanghai Composite Index opened 1.07 percent weaker at 3,281.00. The Nasdaq-like Star Market Board 50 Index, or Star 50, was down 0.98 percent to 1,331.43.

The Shenzhen Component Index stood at 13,107.98, down 1.39 percent. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, began the day 1.57 percent down at 2,609.13.

Major US stock market indexes continued moving lower after the Labor Day weekend amid slow recovery from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.
