(Yicai Global) Oct. 16 -- Chinese mainland stock markets opened slightly higher this morning as investors took a wait-and-see approach amid a volatile market.

The Shanghai Composite Index opened 0.05 of a percent higher at 2,992.61, while the Shenzhen Component Index started off 0.07 of a percent stronger at 9,678.31. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, began the day 0.01 of a percent up at 1,661.00.
