End of an Era: NetEase to Pull the Plug on Fading Blog Service(Yicai Global) Aug. 22 -- Chinese internet company NetEase will cut the lights on its waning blog operations at the end of November.
NetEase will stop its blog service, the Beijing-based software firm said in a statement, without disclosing the reason.
Launched in 2006, NetEase blogs were popular on major Chinese online portals at the time but faded after the launch of new social media platforms such as Sina's microblogging site Weibo and Tencent Holding's lifestyle application WeChat. The usage rate of China's major website journals fell to 19.3 percent as of in 2014, with a scale of 122 millionusers. Other major blogging platforms, such as Baidu Space, Microsoft's Windows Live Spaces have gone out of business years ago.
