(Yicai) Nov. 4 -- Multinational medical device makers, including France’s EssilorLuxottica, will debut a number of cutting-edge products at the China International Import Expo that opens in Shanghai tomorrow, underscoring the country’s growing position in the global healthcare innovation market.

EssilorLuxottica, a leading manufacturer of advanced vision care products, will exhibit its Nuance Audio smart hearing aid glasses at the six-day CIIE, a representative from the Paris-based company told Yicai. The device boasts all-day battery life and is compatible with iOS, Android, and other operating systems.

EssilorLuxottica is focusing on medical technology and wearable devices and aims to redefine how consumers “see” through innovation, noted Lin Guoliang, head of the firm's China lens division.

Germany’s Siemens Healthineers will exhibit an ultra-high gradient magnetic resonance imaging scanner that supports Elon Musk's Neuralink with clinical brain chip trials, a staffer said, noting that this technology transforms traditional “blind” implantation procedures into surgeries that are visible, plannable, and controllable.

The Erlangen-based company will also debut its three photon-counting computed tomography scanners in Asia during the expo, the person added. 

Johnson & Johnson will exhibit its Impella artificial heart, the world’s only interventional left ventricular assist pump approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. The device has been used in over 400,000 cases worldwide. 

China approved Impella and its accompanying mainframe for clinical use in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in August, according to a representative of the New Brunswick-based firm. The application for its use in the rest of the country is in the final review stage and will likely get the green light next year, the person added.

The CIIE will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai through Nov. 10.
