(Yicai Global) Oct. 29 -- The third China International Import Expo that will kick off next week has enticed many overseas exhibitors and inspired their confidence in the Chinese market even as the pandemic is still wreaking havoc elsewhere in the world. The exhibitors said they will use the expo as an opportunity to communicate with Chinese customers and develop new market opportunities.

"Holding the third CIIE on schedule amid the pandemic conveys China's openness to the world and its strong confidence in market recovery," Lv Shuping, the president of Xylem China and North Asia, told Yicai Global. The parent company is based in New York.

The third CIIE will be the smart water technology provider's second. The firm will exhibit various new products from brands like that of US-based YSI, of which two are Asian debuts and three are worldwide premieres, Lv told Yicai Global.

With the continuous development of the Chinese market, China is becoming an increasingly crucial innovative market in addition to a key link in the global supply chain and consumption market, Lv said. "We set up Xylem China's technological research and development center in Shanghai and spent over USD4 million in R&D outlays in both 2018 and 2019," she added.

Many overseas companies are in Xylem’s position. Swiss robotics, power, heavy electrical equipment and automation technology giant ABB, which has signed up for the CIIE for three straight years, will bring more than 50 innovative products and R&D results from 14 countries. "ABB will debut three new products at the third CIIE, up from one debut last year," ABB China Chairman Gu Chunyuan told Yicai Global.

Heavy Footfall

ABB signed strategic cooperation agreements with more than 50 large and medium Chinese enterprises in the first and second CIIEs, and it plans to pen cooperation agreement with a series of key clients this year, Gu said. ABB welcomed government or big corporate delegations' visits to its booths at last two fairs and this helped the company better understand industry trends and develop more innovative technologies serving China, he added.

"We had signed a contract early to lock in the qualification of attending the fourth CIIE next year" in light of the previous fruitful achievements, Gu told Yicai Global.

Holding the 3rd CIIE on schedule creates excellent opportunities for technological exchanges between Chinese enterprises and foreign peers, Michael Zhu, vice president and general manager at Johnson Controls China Investment, told Yicai Global. The 3rd CIIE will also be Johnson Controls’ third.

The company will unveil its OpenBlue digital platform at the exhibition, Zhu told Yicai Global. The platform can be used in a variety of scenarios, including data centers, hospitals and office buildings.

"We saw the visitors' enthusiasm for artificial intelligence and digital technologies, as well as the huge demand of Chinese enterprises in the field of digital transformation at the last two fairs," Zhu said. "We look forward to in-depth communication and interactions with more Chinese enterprises and customers at the 3rd CIIE."

Infectious Confidence

The pandemic made ABB more confident in the Chinese market's prospects, Gu said. "China has become our second-largest market in the world, and more than 90 percent of our sales revenue in China comes from made-in-China products, systems and services."

ABB robotics factory of the future project in Shanghai is progressing as planned and is expected to begin operation in 2021, Gu stated.

The company broke ground on a new factory in Shanghai's Pudong New Area in September last year. It plans to build it into the company's largest, most advanced and most flexible robot factory worldwide.

The 3rd CIIE is scheduled between Nov. 5 to 10 in Shanghai.
