Germany's Henkel Opens USD71 Million Inspiration Center for Adhesive Techs in Shanghai Germany's Henkel Opens USD71 Million Inspiration Center for Adhesive Techs in Shanghai

(Yicai) Sept. 24 -- German industrial product giant Henkel has opened its new Inspiration Center for Adhesive Technologies in Shanghai, with a total investment of EUR60 million (USD70.8 million).

The 33,000-square-meter center, located in the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, opened on Sept. 22, the Dusseldorf-based firm announced on the same day. It gathers over 500 scientists and technical experts from the fields of product development, application technology, and technical services and supports customers across a broad range of industries with leading solutions in adhesives, sealants, and functional coatings.

The center has more than 30 advanced laboratories focused on areas such as thermal management and semiconductor testing, The Paper reported yesterday.

In the thermal management lab, Henkel has integrated technical teams from the automotive and electronics fields to promote platform sharing of heat dissipation technology, according to The Paper. Its 14 watt per meter-Kelvin liquid thermal gap filler has been used in optical communication modules.

In the field of advanced packaging for artificial intelligence chips, Henkel has deeply collaborated with clients to participate in the research and development of low-stress, high-thermal-conductivity materials from the design stage, The Paper noted.

“Built on a technology platform-based setup, the new site enables cross-industry collaboration and knowledge exchange,” Henkel said. “Advanced digital tools connect Henkel experts to the company’s broader global innovation ecosystem, supporting agile workflows and data-driven decision-making.”

As one of the most dynamic and diverse regions globally, Asia-Pacific plays a vital role in driving innovation and growth for Henkel, the firm noted, adding that China, as a key market in the region, is at the forefront of emerging trends, fast-evolving customer needs, and sustainable development.

“The new facility enables Henkel to deepen its understanding of industrial shifts, address unique market demands, and deliver greater value to customers across the region,” the company pointed out.

Henkel has completed a full supply chain layout from innovation to pilot plant testing and manufacturing in China and has also set up an application technology center in Dongguan, a high-end factory in Yantai, and a pilot plant testing base in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, said An Na, president of Henkel China, The Paper reported.

Founded in 1876, Henkel is a global leader in the adhesive field. Its sales exceeded EUR21.6 billion (USD25.46 billion) last year, with an adjusted operating profit of around EUR3.1 billion (USD3.7 billion). It forayed into the Chinese market in the 1970s.
