Global Securities Regulators' Club Chooses Hong Kong SFC CEO as Chair for Third Term Global Securities Regulators' Club Chooses Hong Kong SFC CEO as Chair for Third Term

(Yicai Global) June 11 -- A global cooperative of securities watchdogs has reappointed the chief executive of Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission to be its leader for his third term.

Ashley Alder will continue to serve the International Organization of Securities Commissions till September 30, 2023, the SFC announced yesterday. The SFC CEO was first named chairman of the club of 34 global securities regulators in 2016.

Ashley’s reappointment reflects Hong Kong’s standing as a leading international financial center and a key participant in the global regulatory community, said SFC Chairman Tim Lui.

Alder was originally planning to leave his post at the SFC once his current contract expires later this year but after talking with the government of the special administrative region, as well as evaluating Hong Kong's current environment and global market conditions, he decided to stay.

As the global economy gradually recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic, it is the SFC's job to ensure investor confidence in Hong Kong's fair market conditions, Alder said in the SFC's statement on May 18.
