(Yicai Global) Feb.28 -- Chinese telecom equipment giant Huawei Technologies said the 5.5-generation technology standard for broadband mobile networks will bring a 10-fold increase in network performance over 5G, along with big advantages in areas such as passive Internet of Things and immersive and interactive experiences. 

Various Chinese tech companies participated in the recent 2023 World Mobile Communication Conference held in Barcelona, Spain, with Huawei showcasing industry progress in the 5.5G era.

The Shenzhen-based company said services with both immersive and interactive experiences will become commonplace, and it expects that the number of online users of such services will exceed 1 billion, a 100-fold increase.

The number of passive IoT tags used is expected to reach 100 billion per year, it said. Such tags can transmit data and can be used for positioning and temperature readouts. These features can be used in a wide variety of scenarios, such as automated inventory of warehouse items, agriculture and livestock development, as well as tracking personal items. 

According to Securities Times, Huawei’s president of information and communications technology strategy and marketing, Peng Song, recently pointed out that the global user penetration rate of 5G development in the last three years has been equivalent to that of 4G in five years, and operators with more than 20 percent of the 5G user penetration rate have achieved significant growth in mobile business income.

Statistics from the Global Mobile Communications Association showed that as of last year, the world's 5G users had exceeded 1 billion, and the average revenue per user for the world's top 20 operators increased by 10 percent.
