(Yicai) July 30 -- More than 19,000 native apps are available for download on Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies' HarmonyOS for computers, covering professional and everyday scenarios.

"HarmonyOS computer apps now cover major scenarios, such as general office work, finance, education, creation, audio-visual entertainment, and gaming," Zhu Dongdong, president of Huawei's tablet and personal computer product lines, said at a conference for HarmonyOS computer yesterday.

HarmonyOS supports more than 1,700 types of standard peripherals, including keyboards, mice, and USB drives, and over 1,600 types of office equipment, such as printers and scanners, Zhu noted.

Computer operating systems require decades of work. The development path of mainstream computer OS often follows the same principle. The number of developers determines the richness of apps and, in turn, the user size. The larger the user size, the more developers continue investing, ultimately forming an ecosystem.

HarmonyOS computer ecosystem has already taken the most challenging of the above steps. Compared to the apps presented at last year's conference, which mainly focused on basic compatibility, those showcased this year restructure their functions around HarmonyOS capabilities, adding features such as cross-device collaboration, foldable screen interaction, desktop cards, and system-level artificial intelligence.

Kingsoft Office Software's office suite WPS Office has undergone performance optimization for HarmonyOS, an executive at the Chinese software giant said at the conference. The latest version of WPS for HarmonyOS computers can open 1-gigabyte large PPT files more than sevenfold faster and save files 50 percent quicker, the executive added.

Zwsoft, a Chinese industrial software developer, demonstrated the adaptation achievements of HarmonyOS computers in professional design scenarios at the conference.

Designers can now view CAD drawings on HarmonyOS foldable computers while simultaneously accessing design documents, Zwsoft's Vice President Li Shuaiwei said. They can also use a stylus to make annotations and revisions on the CAD drawings, extending some traditional desktop design processes into the mobile office environment.

The online banking apps of China's five major state-owned banks, China Industrial Bank, and several regional lenders have been gradually adapted to HarmonyOS, Huawei revealed. Apps from 25 financial and brokerage firms, including Hithink RoyalFlush Information Network, East Money Information, and Fortune Trend Technology, are also available on HarmonyOS computers now.

More specialized software programs with higher thresholds, such as scientific computing and simulation software MWorks, have also been reconfigured to work on HarmonyOS computers.

The ability to attract more industry software vendors to launch native HarmonyOS apps and promote their scalable implementation in enterprise and industry scenarios will be crucial in determining whether HarmonyOS computers can further narrow the ecological gap with Windows and macOS.
